Attendance at a Hearing

If you are a party to the application, you are expected to come to the hearing.  Tribunal proceedings, like any legal proceedings, need to be given priority and for parties to make sure they are available to attend.  If an emergency happens that might prevent you from attending, you should contact the Registry.

Can I be compelled to attend a hearing?

Yes, the Tribunal can direct a Registrar to issue a summons for a person to attend.  Once a summons is issued the person must attend as directed.

Can I bring a lawyer?

If you are a party you may bring a lawyer.  If you are not a party you need the permission of the Tribunal to be represented. You should make sure your lawyer writes to the Tribunal before the hearing if you can and provide a Notice of Appearance.  There is a Fact Sheet about representation.
