Appointment of Deputy President / Division Head (General Division)

Following the departure of Deputy President Marica Duvjnak upon her appointment to the Magistrates’ Court, the Attorney-General sought expressions of interest from legal practitioners to be appointed as Deputy President and Division Head of the General Division in March this year.

The open merit appointment process has now been completed and Mr Richard Grueber has been appointed to the role.

Richard is currently a sessional Senior Member of TASCAT sitting in the Guardianship, Mental Health and Resource and Planning Streams. Richard was admitted to practice in 1987 having obtained his law degree with the University of Tasmania. He also has a Graduate Diploma of Business in Professional Management (UTAS). Richard has been in private practice in Hobart since 1991. He has held numerous appointments as a decision-maker, including:

  • Deputy President of the former Mental Health Tribunal
  • Member of the former Guardianship and Administration Board
  • Member of the former Resource Management and Planning Appeals Tribunal
  • Member of the Local Government Code of Conduct Panel

Richard will commence his new full-time role at TASCAT on Monday 18 July 2022.
